On the road again...

Not really, on the lightrail
Oh how I love public transportation!

blakenship going away party

the last friday in june we had a sad but fun
going away party for bethany and stephen
since she (for some reason) really wants to be a doctor
she HAS to go to med school
and for some reason
it's in stupid alabama
-
the left July 1st :(
-
BUTTTTT we had this awesome party with our most
favorite friends in denver
in our backyard
and it was perfect weather!

jason, adam, patrick
aspen fell and scraped her knee up really bad
so my fix (after h2o2 and neosporin) was this "magical healing sock"

kim, cam, troy

erin, shellie, autumn

you can't realllllly tell, but i transformed the garage into a hangout area
i put an array of chairs,
some old rugs,
the base to the anthro table, made into a coffee table,
a dumpster find of a crate and barrel island on wheel thing i turned into "the bar"
and the chaise lounge i found in the alley

bethany and lindsay
(we were in the garage for a bit b/c it was sprinkling

autumn, erin, b, lindsay, me, shellie
aspen and the sock

the first keg i've ever bought!
we had gone on a tour of the new belgium brewery in may
and decided we would get the blanks a fat tire keg for their going away party
so i followed through
and bought my first keg!
jill
the only one i know that can pull of a jumpsuit

jill and erin demonstrating how to use the keg :)

me and the neighbor
i just put this pic in
a: b/c aspen took it
b: b/c i love my dress (it has pockets!)
aspen took this photo too
*isn't my friend pretty???*

b, ella, jill, anne, erin, autumn, jason
*aspen took this too :)
-
it was a great party
-
we had great food
-
great people
-
and really felt the love of colorado friendship
-
bethany i am mad you moved, you know you could just be a janitor
-
but i will come visit you in stupid mobile, AL soon

hiking/camping Lost Lake

this was in June sometime... oh the day before Father's Day
the blanks and the cannons went hiking
for our last hoorah before they moved
-
we wanted to hike in, have a fire, and it be FREE
-
we drove to Nederland
stopped at the visitor center
got a map
headed out

stephen, cam, bethany, both dogs
crazyyyyy waterfall/river

our tent to the left, theirs to the right
it was a perfect little spot!

me and b

schnooze kept wandering off
so we had to put her leash on...
ella kept wanting to play with her
and was grabbing the leash and pulling schnooze, it was awesome!
cam reallllllly wanted to start the fire without matches
so here he is with his flint
and some tender...

don't worry, this took about an hour,
and it burned out very quickly
we finally resorted to a match

love this pic!

this was sunday morning,
we hiked around the lake
(ps, super cold out in the morning... water had to be 34*)
cam decides to swim in it

this is as far as he got, and the cold was making his arms and legs
freeze up... no drowning allowed

he's so crazy

we put schnooze up on this tree :)

schnooze and ella are so cute

ella wanted up too

May 21 (i think) maybe 22

we drove back to cape town
had dinner
stayed at an amazing hostel that we wished we would have stayed
at the whole time. it was so nice.
we got up and went to the airport,
realizing, we got there 3 hours before our flight
(on accident).
landed in jo-burg
rented a car
and then spent a long 6 hours driving,
getting lost,
running out of cell phone minutes
trying to find a place to stay
have a terrible border crossing experience
being car sick
and having migraines.
-
-
in the morning, we were refreshed.
we drove to manzini market
then on to the kramer's site!

manzini market
with tons of stuff!
several days later i got some trinkets
and some awesome fabric
(Lo, this is where i got the fabric!!!)
-
now we're at the site!
baby chicks!!!

annabelle (L) & oliver (R)

the garden!!!!

the round hut in front is a storage house, for cotton
sus and chris's house is to the right, with the metal roof
it looks big, but it's not
to the left in front of the storage hut, is sus's "brother's" house

baby goats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
only 4 days old!

ohhh i love you floppy ears

i got you!!!!!!!

sus's mom, make (say it like this: mogg-a)

they don't smile in pics, even though they are very smiley people
so this is their "swazi" pic

on the left is Babe (say it like this bob- ehh) somebody.. i forgot his real name, but we just call him Happy Days, and sus's "dad" Babe on the right
these were taken just after church, and happy days still had his robe on.
the hut behind the men is where make and babe cook
over an open fire

technically this is the next day
sus and i walked about 3 miles to
the preschool she teaches at.
these kids are 3-6 years old
and have either 1 or 2 parents die from AIDS
so they come for several hours a day and get a free meal
and taught some cool things
like english, songs, letters, numbers....
the kid behind the girl in the pink hoodie and orange shorts
the one with the red hat and backpack was my favorite!!!
he did not take the backpack off the whole time!!!!!!!
-
-
so anyway, we walked the 3 miles back, and then headed to matata
(where the post office and grocery store are)
to meet Ali, sus's bestie there
and to eat and get a few groceries before our SAFARI!!!!!!!!
-
coming up:
animals you would normally see at the zoo, 10 feet away!!!!
