but c was out of town

so kim watched her overnight

i missed her soooo much.

but it looks like she had fun w/ garrett

I put up Christmas stuff

and cam worked on school stuff

that evening we went to jill's house

i wore heels AND makeup

but she fell asleep on the ride over

and we let her sleep in jills bed

So after Christmas

we just kinda chilled

we visited Cam's bff Daniel and his wife

Mima came into town

we ate at In & Out Burger

and shopped at Sam Moon

we arrived in plano on the 23rd

and got to see david and lea ann (poppie & lili)

and blake, jenny, and austin

we ate a great homecooked meal of lasagna

and just chatted the night away.

the 24th we all (minus lili and poppie)

had to run a secret errand of getting our photos taken

as lili and poppies present

we decided to make our christmas present for the family

be a trip to philly.

cameron got an interview there, so we decided to all go!

hazel finding out she has a new cousin

she did well on the 3.5 hour flight, thank goodness

we arrived in philly and rented a car

then drove to mt. gretna

where the interview would be

we ate at a local place called blue bird inn

then headed to bed to try and sleep before the interview.

the interview went EXTREMELY well,

and cam drove us to see the site afterwards

it's an in/out patient hospital

ON A FARM!!!!

then we headed 14 miles to Hershey,

the chocolate capital of the world :)

that house is made out of choc!!

long story short,

i used to be allergic to chocolate

and for easter the 4 cousins were at gram's house

and she got everyone a chocolate bunny

and i got...

a grape one.

also everyone got to have choc. milk

and i got.... strawberry :(

needless to say, i grew out of my allergy!!!

breast feeding is going great

we are trying to get H on a schedule

kinda like baby-wise

where she eats, plays/wake time, then sleeps

and the goal is to get her to sleep thru the night

last night she only woke up at 2am which was AWESOME!!

it also helps me to know when i can get stuff done around the house.

sadly i go back to work jan 3

so i have been pumping like crazy to save up some milk

but i just don't want to go back AT ALL :(

how do moms do it?

i mean even if i could go part time it would be hard

but i will still be full time until cameron finishes internship.

only 1.5 years!!!!

we flew to ok wednesday

hazel did awesome on her first flight!!!

we met up with mom, david, kim, derek, carole, and ed and ate at the iguana lounge for dinner

then we headed to gram's house

thursday morning we woke up to this

then dad & maggie came over to meet hazel!!!!

it was love at first sight!

then we headed to okc for lunch at carole and ed's house

in addition to the people at dinner wed night, we added haden, maureen, antoine, gayle, & calvin

Lo and I caught up

we were all exhausted so we decided that the boys would watch the kids while we went to get

pedicures & coffee friday.

so cam, h, and i drove to the schatzel house and Lo and I headed out.

we were hoping it would put Lo into labor (she's 39 weeks)

but no such luck.

BUT it was mighty relaxing!!!

then we headed to Edmond and ate a late lunch with

dad, maggie, and gram at 501 cafe

then we headed to the Froese house

to see laura and andy

Gabs and I have known each other since 7th grade

and had to wake up at 3:30am for a 6:50am flight

(stupid me)

i had to make a new one for hazel

and i saw this on pinterest

so i kinda revamped our existing stockings too

i used some foam stamps that i already had

and some black fabric paint i had

and some muslin i had

i just stamped the names on

and then sewed them onto the stocking

i went to ace hardware

and got some hex nut thingys

(the gold colored ones weren't small enough, so sadly

i had to get silverish)

these were 6 cents each

and i got 18

and some multi-pupose twine $3.99

pretty much an exact match

i may look at home depot another day for the goldish ones

cameron even said he might wear one!!!!

she was really fussy during the dedication

and right when they started she had a HUGE spit-up

then was crying the whole time...

homemade sugar scrub

i decided it would be wayyyyy cheaper to make my own body scrub...

so i did.

all you realllllllly need is:

sugar

some form of oil, i used grapeseed

you could add some essential oils

(i used jasmine)

here are 5 different recipes

but i just got an old bath salt container

and filled it with suger

then added the oil until it was dampish

then added several drops of jasmine essential oil

i used it in the bath last night

and it worked wonders

i think it's better than the store-bought kind

and it really exfoliated!!!

Tuesday Sept 13:

felt fine

yoga

hung out with julie and got yogurt

midwife appt for 36 weeks

-my bp was up at the begining of the appt like 160/100,

but i told them to wait and take it again, not only

do i have "white coat syndrome" but i also

drove in traffic.

-they take it again and it comes down to 128/98

but they want to draw blood and keep an eye on me

-they also tell me to take my bp everyday

and call if it's up

-i may need to do a 24 hour urine later if needed

-so they are thinking maybe preeclampsia, but not just quite yet.

i go home and rest

i take my bp after laying on the couch for 2 hours

and it's 140's/90's

but i think, maybe i am still stressed and i will take it in the morning.

Wednesday Sept 14:

i get up at 6:45am and take bp

it's 150/100's

and i KNOW.

i just know that not only will i have to go in to the midwife,

but i have a feeling we will be having a baby that day.

i decide to shower

and then cam and i walk to starbucks

i start having irregular but painful contractions while walking.

they make me have to stop walking

and cameron is getting annoyed

(i think he thinks i am just exaggerating)

we get back to the house and i call lauren

i tell her what's going on

then i call the midwife.

she calls back and says i need to go in to the OB triage

and that i should pack a bag

but they may just have me do a 24 hour urine (to check for protein).

i go into nurse mode/mom mode?

and start packing and putting stuff in the car

(at this point those contactions had stopped)

i tell cam we have to go to the hospital

and he says "okay jst let me know when"

and i say "uhhh like NOW"

and then he kinda starts to freak out, but

is also excited we may have a baby soon!!!

thankfully we remember the car seat

and i had already kinda started packing a bag.

we arrive at triage and i still don't really KNOW what's going on.

I immediately get hooked up to the baby monitor & uterine monitor.

they take my bp often, and the highest i saw was 160/120.

awesome.

they explain that if the diagnose me with severe preeclampsia then

i will be switched from my midwife to a high risk OB.

there goes my natural birth right?

well, they diagnose me as severe preeclampsia and introduce

me to the high risk OB- Nick, he is awesome and I love him.

He talks to me like a nurse and cameron like a poor scared husband.

it's perfect. he tells me the plan he has and asks if all that is okay.

PLAN:

to prevent seizures (eclampsia) start Magnesium drip

with a 6gram bolus over 30 minutes (which is crazy a lot of mag),

and then keep a drip going of 2grams/hour.

then do cytotec

then insert a foley bulb into cervix and manually dilate me

then start pitocin

and get the baby out!

only treat my bp if it's > 160/90, which was only a couple times

so they didn't ever have to.

we are still in triage waiting for a labor room, and cameron has a class from 3-6

and i tell him to go b/c this process will take a really long time.

and lauren was coming to sit with me.

so he leaves, and i move into a labor room (about 2pm ish).

lauren arrives as they are letting me eat lunch (my last meal).

then about 3pm they start the Mag bolus

mag in high doses relaxes the muscles (a: preventing seizures b: helps with bp sometimes)

BUT it makes ALL your muscles relax, and i turn into a wet noodle,

i can't move on my own, and definately can't hold my head up or swallow.

they have to constantly check my reflexes to make sure they aren't ODing me on Mag.

and they see i have clonus, and when people have it it's usually 5 beats, mine was like 30 beats.

they said good thing i came in, or i would have seized at home.

great.

i get a foley catheter, it's not as big of a deal as i thought.

the mag bolus makes me so so so hot and nauseated and gross.

lauren has to fan me and give me 100 ice packs.

Lauren calls cam and says AHHH come back.

he was already not paying attn in class

and was gonna come back anyway.

the bolus is over and i feel a little better.

they check me to possibly insert the cytotec,

and see i am 1.5cm dilated and 60% effaced

so they skip cytotec and just go ahead with the foley bulb.

they start the pitocin.

cam gets back.

i don't really feel anything at this point.

lauren leaves & cam and i just hang out.

i watch clueless & dexter season 5 & 16 candles.

and i try to sleep.

the residents and attendings and med students

are constantly coming in to check my reflexes and what not.

Thursday Sept 15:

about 0500 they tug on my foley bulb in my cervix and

it comes out!! that means i am about a 3-4cm dilated!

then at about 0600 i start to have painful contractions.

like PAINFUL.

and i can't move at all to try and get comfortable.

i puke. and it's gross b/c my muscles are so relaxed...

let's just leave it at that.

Rosie my nurse was amazing.

I tell them I knew i was gonna have to,

but I need the epidural please.

the CRNA i DID NOT like at all.

im in the freaking middle of having a contraction,

she wants me to sit on the side of the bed,

i can't even move on my own...

and i am like a noodle.

she's not nice.

BUT she gets it in and almost immediately

my headache goes away.

Praise God.

the contraction pain also goes away- for a couple hours.

i feel really good & even have some ice chips!

then...

I knew this would happen, and this is why i didn't want an epidural.

It quits working.

i start having really painful contractions again.

in the back of my head i wonder if i am just really far along?

but they check me and im only a 5.

so they call in the CRNA (a different awesome one)

and he gives me a bolus and it's not really working,

but yet it is?

so he has them check me again,

and i am a 7!!!!!

and within an hour i am 10cm/100%!!!!

but i am still in pain.

they tell me and say that it's time to have a baby!!!
within minutes 15+ people are in the room

and it gets transformed into a LABOR room.

i get a bolus of fentanyl in my epidural

and they tell me IT'S TIME TO PUSH,

and i know in my head i need to,

but i feel so so so bad, like all sweaty and

like i am gonna pass out and barf at the same time,

then i can't really see/hear things,

and i hear someone say my pressure is 50/--

i hear them say they are giving me a bolus of neo (a med to increase bp)

and hazel didn't like when my pressure was that low

so they want me to hurry and push.

once my bp is back up, i feel better and am okay to push!

they bring in a HUGE stand up mirror on wheels

so i can see to push (which was super helpful for me)

and i push when they say/ b/c i cannot feel a thing

and i feel like i have no control.

but i keep pushing

and they are telling me i am doing a good job.

i all of a sudden say

"i hope it's still a girl" and everyone laughs.

i still try to keep my sense of humor,

but i can barely move the muscles in my mouth.

cam says that i said HOLY BALLS a lot.

and "This is so weird"

i push for 30 minutes, and

out comes a miracle.

Born at 11:25am

apgar scores of 8 & 9

and perfect in every way.

cameron goes over to see her

and lauren stays with me

they deliver my placenta and i ask to see it and touch it.

they let me :) and don't think i am that weird.

and they sew up a "small tear" i have.

cameron yells out "she just peed, that is so cool!"

and then they bring her over to me!

they help me hold her and help me try to breast feed.

and then help me feed her formula.

they get me all cleaned up

and let me rest for a couple hours.

then we move to a postpartum room.

the lactation consultant comes in and talks with cameron

b/c i am so out of it (still on mag/ epidural out)

then i start to feel like i need my pad changed and i feel bad.

i tell cameron i don't feel good

(which i had been saying all day anyway)

and so the lac. consultant pushes the call light for me and leaves.

cameron is oogling at hazel in her bassinet

and taking pics

and i keep telling him something isn't right.

i look down at my belly and it's bulging BULGING.

luckily the nurse walks in at that time

and goes into action.

she pushes on my belly

and blood is just pouring out of me.

within minutes there are 15 people in the room.

they do an ultrasound of my uterus and see a clot

they tell me they have to get the clot out.

so i am thinking with a little tool & ultrasound

NO NO NO liz, you are wrong again...

they call it a manual sweep

they freaking stick their whole arm up to the elbow through the cervix

(already down to 4cm at this time)

and scoop out clots

(i like to refer to this as pumpkin carving)

they hang more pitocin to contract my uterus

and then GO FOR IT

i am screaming in pain

i get a small dose of IV pain medicine, but it was NOTHING.

it was the WORST pain i have ever felt in my life

and i am screaming profanities and squeezing peoples

hands off. it was so awful.

they start to count down from 5, and i think okay i can make it,

and then when they hit 1, they start counting all over again.

WHAT THE....

then once the finish, the look with u/s again, and see more clot.

and have to go in again.

this time wasn't as bad, but it still hurt.

they said at some point my pressure was 70/--

but like i could tell.

it was so freaking awful.

so awful.

mom and david are outside the room at this point

b/c they just arrive.

and have no idea what's going on.

so someone updates them.

after it's over i see mom before they leave.

it's over.

i lost a total of 1200-1300mls of blood

(that's almost 1/2 my blood volume)

they let me have the mag off for a couple hours so i can eat

and hold my baby.

then i strike a bargain with Nick the OB

and ask to have the mag at 1gm/hour when we restart

and he says yes!

so at that point then i feel so so so much better

i can swallow and move around in bed

and hold my baby.

i am exhausted but i can't sleep.

i watch stupid tv and hang out with my nurse

and hold hazel.

Friday Sept 16:

i feel almost 100x better,

mom, david, & sus come

lots of visitors

MAG IS OFF at 11:00am!!!!

Foley catheter is out!!!
I can walk to the bathroom!!!!!

we move rooms to the non high risk floor

Saturday Sept 17:

feed hazel, sleep, change hazel, repeat

ENT comes to check out Hazel's smashed nose

and says it is okay on the inside

but he will tape it up so it will be straight.

i see why moms all of a sudden are okay with their baby coming early.

not that i realllllly want her to...

but i am turning into a teenage girl again or something.

i am so emotional, seriously SO emotional

i can't really do anything anymore

i am getting a round face

i don't sleep but i am tired

i have to pee every 5 minutes

i can't eat, b/c my stomach is so squished

i can't really breathe...

but all that being said, i still love it

and she is like an alien in there moving all around

and we play poke the foot, she pushes her foot out, i poke it and she pulls it back

and i think that is so awesome!!!!

i have my bag partially packed for delivery

just in case,

but i am sure we will forget something.

i finished her room the best i can.

now i just need to clean it.

i am awaiting all my diapers to come in the mail...

the shower from work was literally that

a shower, of love and generosity,

and i was able to purchase all the diapers with a giftcard to amazon.

cameron cleaned the house while i fell asleep on the couch friday night.

So we left Thursday afternoon

and headed towards Aspen

view on Independence Pass

We got to our campsite around 7pmish and started setting up, cam did food, i did tent.

it was a great site

kinda secluded from others,

close to the bathroom,

and te weather was BOMB!

yes yes, pregnant people can camp too :) this is my new shirt, and i had to wear it.

it was getting chilly!

so we ate & played phase 10 & went to bed.

we woke up and it was 40* ahhh!!!!

we ate breakfast made by cam

and then headed to the trailhead (by car)

but let me just say it was amazing.

okay okay, i lied about enjoying the beauty, i have to say, i love love love this pic.

we hiked here (1.8miles)

and had a picnic

then headed back to the car.

the hike wasnt so bad, but i went really really really slow.

so hans may or may not have gotten so tired that he would lay down and not move.

so poor cameron had to carry him on several occasions.

and yes, notice his booties :) he did really well with them.

he actually did really well on the way up, he just won't pace himself.

this got so much attention it was ridiculous.

there were several people that had to stop and take pics and videos.

nevermind the big fat prego hiking, lets look at the 3-legged dog with shoes being carried :)

i mean, what a pathetic dog. but he's soooooo cute....

all in all it was a great trip.

we were both worn out, so instead of camping another night,

we packed up and went home.

as we were packing up i subluxed my kneecap and it was NOT fun.

it hurt like a mofo.

it used to happen all the time, but hasn't happened since

i think right before our wedding.

anyway, cameron was great, and made me an ice pack

and packed up the car, and drove THE WHOLE WAY home.

we got home, showered, and ate while we watched a movie.

it was the perfect end to the trip.

steps we have accomplished:

made an appt to "interview" a prediatrician

toured the birth center

have our child birth class next week

meet with doula after child birth class x2

get to have second baby shower in a couple weeks

caught up on thank you notes (so far)

no more trips anywhere so that's just good.

maybe i can start focusing on minor details

like art for her room

sewing more dresses for her

packing bag for labor

getting a nursing bra (ahhhh)

people, i am gonna be a momma in like 2 months.

that is nuts!

yes, we are camping

yes, the weather will be oh so much cooler than in denver

yes, there will not be fancy hotels or massages

yes, i will be hiking my big fat butt 3.6 miles one day

yes, i can go slow

yes, it is the most beautiful place i have ever heard about in CO

yes, i have always wanted to go

yes, last night hans ate 2/4 of our chicken skewers pre-grill, skewer and all, and then barfed up a skewer at 4:30 this morning and i had to clean it up

and yes, we still love him.

so i think this will actually be an awesome trip, little stress, not a long crazy hike.

we will hike 1.8 miles and eat lunch and hang out and let hans swim, and then hike back 1.8 miles, and go back to our campsite. it's near Aspen, so we can always go into town if need be. but i can't wait.

we are going the weekend after Lane & Jess's wedding

and i can't wait for that either,

it's gonna be hot, but with really awesome people!!!!

holy cow!

(that's how i feel :))

don't get me wrong, i love being pregnant, but here are the weird not likey so much things going on:

i can barely get my socks and shoes on

i can't see my feet anymore

my feet seem to be sore and painful

hard to get in/out of the honda

boobs are sore again

can't walk as fast

get out of breath walking anywhere :)

but things i LOVE:

feeling her move ALL THE TIME

how cute i actually feel

people really are nicer to you (at times)

people can tell i am pregnant, not just fat

my skin is really good right now

i can go to prenatal yoga (i guess i could when i wasn't preg, but that's weird)

i feel empowered

i am gonna be a momma (scary but oh so cool)

i feel like i am not the normal pregnant lady and people can do with that what they want, but i think it gives some people a peace of mind knowing you don't have to be perfect, IE:

i drink caffeine (not a ton, but whatever i feel like)

i ate sushi (really just roe on top of non raw rolls, oh man kill me now)

i eat lunch meat (albeit organic, but still)

i drink alcohol, little sips here and there, but some ppl balk at that

i'm not a worry wort AT ALL

and as many books that i read PRE-PREGNANCY,

i've barely read any during pregnancy

i still haven't picked a pediatrician

i think i am more laid back than i was before.

all that to say:

hazel is growing strong and healthy and measuring 1.5 weeks ahead.

she moves all the time

and i think she likes that I AM HER MOM.

so there.

i am getting so big!

it's like a love-hate relationship

mostly love with a little dis-likeness

i am randomly getting what they call sacral pain or posterior pelvic pain

i just feels like you bruised your coccyx reallllllllly bad.

but it kinda sucks a lot.

i get charlie horses a lot at night too.

but honestly i am feeling really good.

still doing yoga once a week.

trying to be outside a lot, except it's been SOOOO hot here (i know i know, not like OKLA/KS/TX)

but it's been above 90* with a little humidity, and remember people we don't have central air here.

and this past weekend my friends from church threw me THE BEST BABY SHOWER ever!!!!

she is moving all the time

until someone wants to feel her, then she gets shy.

this morning i had my Glucose Tolerance Test

that sucked.

basically 1 hour before you get yourblood drawn,

you drink 5oz of this sugary nasty orange stuff

and you may think, oh 5oz, that's not a lot...

oh man, but by the 5th oz, you feel like youre gonna puke.

then you have to sit there without water or anything

with this sugar crap gurgling in your belly.

anyway, i guess we'll find out soon if i passed.

and then we go for another u/s thursday b/c they couldn't

measure some things b/c hazel wouldn't move for them.

who knows.

oh yeah, and i have gained 17lbs so far!

so i will keep you updated!!!!

we went to the midwife on monday

things look great

and we got our first "official" u/s today.

so, friday it was our 5 year anniversary!

can you believe it?

5 years?

that is a long time!!!

remember these:

i was so lucky that i got to be on call from work in the morning.

so cam and i headed to Pajama Baking Co for breakfast.

he had a burrito & i had a biscuit with eggs/bacon/cheese.

(and my new fav. drink in the WORLD sweet tea).

we got to spend a few hours together,

then I got called in

which was fine b/c it was an easy day.

then i came home and cameron had a card for me.

and a "suprise in the fridge"

we open the fridge and there is a CASE

of my other new fav. drink: Arnold Palmers!!!!

inside the card cam said we could go pick out some

jewelry together!!!!!!!! woot woot!
i had been saying that we could combine:

mothers day, anniv, push present, and my bday present

together and get something awesome.

we ate some thai food for a quick dinner,

then he had to go to bed early, and i went to a baby shower.

sorry no pics, but we didn't do ANYTHING.

then saturday he taught the class that has been his vision for so long.

A Forgiveness Class graduate level at DU.

he wrote all the curriculum

and the SUMMER class was FULL!!!!

he is teaching it over 2 long saturdays instead of through the whole summer.

He got great feedback after the first day,

people loved it AND him :) how could they not :).

I am so proud of him.

then he came home and he took me to Sundance at Park Meadows Mall

to pick the gems out:

so we had to make some room changes since the baby is coming.

so we had to move the office to the finished side of the basement

and we made the office the nursery

but then, where would we have guests stay?

so we made the unfinished side of the basement kinda finished

i am feeling her move ALL the time

it's the best feeling ever, but oh so weird.

i have been craving/scarfing down

ice-pops/otter-pops

like they are going to take them off the market.

it's a little sad, but at least there's no corn syrup in them :)

we've been working on the yard trying to make it look good

(my friends are throwing me a shower in the backyard in july)

we think we may have to just lay some patches of sod,

b/c as great as the grass seed is, it's just not cutting it in certain areas.

it's been really really nice outside lately

and i have been able to sit and work in the garden and flower beds

without feeling too hot.

what else is new?

mom and david came by on their way out for the semi-annual camping trip, and they also stopped by on their way back home. it was so good to see them, and for them to see my growing belly!

i have been working on the nursery

so hopefully i will get pics of that soon.

i was fixing the basement up, then running to the store.

i am feeling her move a lot now!

esp when i am just getting home from work and resting on the couch

and when i am getting in to bed and reading.

it is the weirdest but coolest feeling ever.

i can't wait til cameron can feel her too!

i can't believe i am over halfway done.

seems really crazy, i feel like i just found out.

our friends rose and scott got married this past weekend!

a lot of our friends were in town

we had a blast hanging out with them all

too bad it was the most unlikely weather denver has ever had

it was cold and rainy the WHOLE time.

saturday was the wedding

at 910 arts gallery

it was perfect!

the ceremony and reception were in the same place

and i loved it, we sat where we ate,

so i felt like there were no "brides/grooms sides"

since we are friends with both the bride and the groom.

AND we were pretty much 1 person away from the action

so i could see really well.

i am not sure what my face is doing.

-so i didn't take any pics,

but at the place settings were different homemade fabric napkins, in 4-6 different fabrics, they were perfect, and something we could take home! there was also homemade jam/jelly at each place setting too for us to take! it was such a great wedding! congrats rose and scott, we love you!

but this is the nursery bedding forthe babe.

i hated everything i saw

and what i did like, was sooooo expensive.

so i made it.

i got the fabric at Fancy Tiger

and it's by Joel Dewberry
